S-type gate blowout preventer

The S-type gate blowout preventer (BOP) is a core well control device conforming to API 16A and GB/T 20174 standards. It gets its name from the rectangular S-shaped cavity with guide ribs in its gate chamber. It typically uses a cast steel shell and a hinged side-opening structure. As an economical gate blowout preventer, it is widely used in shallow wells, well workovers, and low-pressure conventional onshore drilling operations. It can provide long-term high-pressure well sealing, achieving wellhead safety control under conditions of overflow and well kick. Main functions:
1. Long-term high-pressure well sealing: Equipped with a semi-sealing gate, it can seal the drill pipe and tubing annulus; a fully sealing gate can seal the empty wellhead. Mechanically locked by a manual locking mechanism, it can withstand pressure for extended periods, serving as a core rigid safety barrier for well control.
2. Establishing a well control circulation channel: Connected to choke and kill manifolds via side flanges on both sides of the shell, it enables well kill and choke blowout relief operations, smoothly controlling the formation pressure at the wellhead.
3. Temporarily suspend the downhole tubing string; after shutting off and locking, it can support the weight of the drilling tools and tubing, facilitating wellhead equipment disassembly, assembly, and maintenance.
4. In case of emergency well shut-in due to well blowout, a shear gate can be configured to cut the downhole tubing string and completely seal the wellhead in an emergency, preventing blowout accidents.
